You already know from my previous entries that my Dad is in a nursing home, and while he still knows who I am, the father I knew is all but gone. I still ADORE him and plan on going home next weekend to visit him as his birthday is the 24th of June. He will be 87 years old! I love you Dad!
My husband got the honors today. Whatever dinner he wanted, a funny card, presents from our two daughters etc. He did mow the lawn, but afterwards we sat under our huge maple tree with a Tom Collins and enjoyed the sun, breeze and beautiful time together.
They are telling us that we are going to have a heat wave in the middle of this week. But for today, it was a perfect summer day! None of us felt very ambious after getting home from church and that included one of my darling cats – Raina.
I sat down for a minute to knit a few rows on my sock (more on that later) and she jumped on my lap and turned into a lounge lizard!!! I belive that she really missed me terrible while we were in Michigan. I pushed her off on to her blanket and I headed outside to do a few chores.
I love to put this old kitchen chair on my little side porch with some flowers for a splash of color. The poor thing needed to be scraped and painted so I hauled it out into the way back yard and gave it a new coat of fire engine red paint. Here it is in the driveway for the final baking in the sun.
When it was dried enough on to the porch it went with the final look for the summer.
This side porch gets blazing sun in the morning and then by 2pm total shade. I have tried having real flowers in that pot but they either get burned up in the sun or they drowned in the rain and shade. I was hoping I had some not so fallish flowers in my barn, but that is what I had. If I feel inclined I might pick up some summerish looking flowers at Walmart and save these for fall.
I thought I would take a walk around the yard and take a couple pictures of flowers that are blooming just to make my blog look pretty.
These are about on their way out – clematis climbing on the trellis on the walkway to our “real” front door/porch.
Around the corner is my rose bush that the girls gave me when they were tiny. I keep forgetting that they are up here and so they bloom and I don’t catch them!!! I would love some wool in this shade of pink, peach…….
(Sorry that it is a little out of focus.)
Then up in my garden along the fence was a wonderful surprise for my felines. Do you know what this is?
No, not pot. It is catnip! And look who loves it! Misha!
So, that was my outside adventure. Now this blog is suppose to be about knitting so I will end my entry with a picture of the progress on my sock. I wish it was going faster….. I started this on the way home on my road trip and I expected it to be done the second day I got there! It seemed like all I did was knit!!!
I am not sure I like the huge strip pattern. The bands are too big. Oh well, too late now. And everyone who sees it says they love the colors.
Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and husbands etc. in your lives.
