I know you are getting tired of me saying I am still working on my fair entries. BUT, I have just the hedgehog finger puppet left to finish up. He needs his eyes, nose and ears attached and I am calling him done.
I promise pictures when everything is done done DONE!
Let’s see, what other random things can I fill you in on?
It’s hot, dry and Central NY will be breaking a record today with the temperature almost at 100 degrees. I work in an office with air conditioning, but my husband has an outside job and I worry about him getting over heated. Packed his cooler with lots of water, a couple wet wash cloths that I put in sandwich bags and put in the frig the night so they are nice and cold when he needs to refresh himself. He is pretty good about knowing his limits and when he needs to just STOP and cool down.
I pulled shades, opened windows and just left all the critters (cats and hedgehogs) with lots of water and safe inside where they are out of the direct sunlight. The hedgehogs LOVE to be warm – generally I keep their cages at 80 degrees (they are from Africa after all!) and so, for the most part, they are as happy as claims right now and so is their Momma because I don’t have to spend money HEATING their cages like I do in winter!!
In early spring I faithfully hung my birdhouses around the yard (I take them down in the fall because the mice live in them during the winter! Yes, they do!) and waited patiently. One house hangs right outside my kitchen sink window and since early June the sweet song of the House Wren has been entertaining me (and my feline girls) while doing dishes etc. My husband was able to capture a picture of her in silhouette singing her heart out!
Today is my weekly grocery shopping day (I try to only go grocery shopping once a week for the major things) and I stuggled last night for dinner ideas. I think I will make a quiche tomorrow night, and tonight I think BLT’s sound good. It is easier to make dinners in the heat because everyone is not very hungry. Something light, cool and easy. In the winter you feel inclined to make comfort foods – mac and cheese, red sauce and pasta …….. now it is grilled hot dogs or chicken and salads. Feel free to give me some simple quick ideas for these hot summer days.
If I get a few minutes to knit in between working on the entries I am on my second sock on the pair that I started on my road trip to Michigan! How pathetic is that? I bought from a nice person on Ravelry the out of print copy of Cat Bordhi’s New Pathways for Sock Knitters.
What a wonderful book though – I love just about everything Cat Bordhi does/invents/creates. It would be a life goal on my bucket list if I could go to one of her sock classes. She is how I got hooked on socks in the first place!
There you have it, where my life and head is at at this very moment. Many stressful things going on all around me: my aging parents, my unsettled, unemployed daughters and their drama scenes that I really don’t like getting involved in, already thinking about getting ready for the long expensive winters (filled with fuel oil deliveries at $700 a pop) and looking at my to do list for the summer of 2012 and seeing that next to nothing on the list is done. Bah. Through it all I have more to be thankful for than complaints. Thanks for letting me vent.
